Face Modeling ….. I like Modeling

6 05 2009

miketest2Well I finally got a test render of a face model, I’ve been working on.
It’s been a challenge to say the least. First it was finding a good reference. That was tricky, but eventually I found one. So I began modeling. The basic low poly version didn’t take that long, The fun/ hard part was making sure there were no tri’s. I succeeded ! with one exception. The ears, I did have a few but I should be able to clean them up. Once I had my base model I found that modeling in smooth mode was quite fun and an extra advantage. As my model began to take shape in an entire new level.
At that point we were supposed to hand in the model we had made. But thanks to the weekend I was able to go the extra mile. I fully textured my model. Keep this in mind though it’s not finished. I started to light and play to see what effects I could get. Also I added some sub surface scattering and some specular lighting.
So for now check out this model of a head and hook me up with some feedback.

Caio for now

Random acts of Vandalism @ BCIT

Random Acts of Vandalism

Random Acts of Vandalism

Vandalism at BCIT – The other day a few of my class mates went out to the local Timmy Ho’s and we often have to walk by the broadcasting building. This is a regular event, during breaks, before class and after class. Though this time it was a little different. Someone decided to spray paint the radio car. With some rather rude remarks and symbols. Why? I couldn’t tell you. But, to be perfectly honest. I can tell you that at first thought it seemed almost funny. But when you took a second glance that’s just disgusting. I can only hope that Karma takes its toll on who ever did this act of vandalism.

Quality control …

21 04 2009

Technology Rant – So am back at the USB issue, this time with another rant.
I’m a little frustrated at the lack of quality control regarding External hard drives.
When the consumer goes out shopping for a hard drive, they are a few things they may look for. Such as – Read and write speed – compatibility to other computers and most important the amount of space available. This is where the quality control comes in. Why is it that an external hard drive that is listed with a 1 Terabyte memory does not show up with 1 Terabyte? Well I can’t tell you because I have not gotten to the bottom of this issue. But I plan to.
The last hard drive I bought was listed with a size of 1 terabyte. But once I plugged it in to my computer it was only showing about 900-gig worth of space. Now 5 or 6 gig might not be much when you have that much space available, though a hundred is simply put a scam in every sense of the word. The worst part about it is that every one of these companies that are producing the hard drives are getting away with it.
One analogy might be – why would you buy a car that doesn’t do what the spec sheet says it can do. If it says the car can go 16.2 km per liter, we as consumers expect that the car can go 16.2 km per liter. So why can companies get away with this?
Does anyone know the answer?

Well hopefully this rant might help out some of you before you buy an external hard drive. They may be more deceiving than you think.
Do some research, then do some more and you might come to the same conclusion I have. We don’t get what we pay for anymore.

Finally after so much delay I have finished my first animated weightlifter. Especially, since I have been able to catch up with most of my work since my recent USB fail.
So here you have it. We had to animate a character of our choice picking up something heavy. Now conveying weight in the CG environment, that is something tricky to pull off. I know my animation isn’t perfect but it’s been a labour of love. I have found that once you really get into the character and making weight-lift reference videos to compare to.
It helps quite a bit. So for anyone out there that is going into animation I have so much appreciation for what you all do. It takes patience, time and a lack of sleep that im sure all my classmates understand and endure to get all of our work done. Just remember to eat well, sleep when possible, and try to see the light of day often. Our cave of animation can be hard to leave. So without further rambling, enjoy the video and leave some feedback. :)
